Frequently Asked

Questions? Explore our Marine Electrical Supply Frequently Asked Questions.

What wiring is best for marine use?

When wiring a boat or yacht, corrosion is a major problem. That’s why it’s best to use tinned copper electrical wire for marine applications as it is resistant to corrosion as wires are exposed to saltwater over time. Marine-grade wire is also stranded as opposed to a solid copper wire used for home electrical circuits. This is to ensure flexibility and longevity in an environment where the boat is constantly moving. It’s also important to select the proper gauge wire depending on the length of the circuit to and from the power source and the number of amperes (amps) required to power the various electronics onboard.
