MARINE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

CAREER DESCRIPTION

Overview:   Dream career for the right individual to join one of the Premiere Marine Electric organizations in the world.  Ward’s Marine Electric, a family-owned and operated business for over 70 years, is looking for a stellar Marine Electrical Engineer.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum of 5 years experience in the design and engineering of marine electrical systems and equipment.  Have a working knowledge of common marine electrical standards and practices as they relate to electrical power distribution systems and vessel control systems.  Have a working knowledge of all marine systems, including but not limited to, diesel engine propulsion systems, diesel generator systems, fuel systems, fresh water and sewage systems, hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, air conditioning systems, lighting systems, vessel control and navigation systems, alarm, monitoring and safety systems, shore power systems, battery systems, etc.

Minimum Skills and Special Requirements: 

Excellent working skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access. Also, excellent working skills in AutoCAD in both electrical and mechanical disciplines.  Shall have excellent communication and writing skills.  Must have working knowledge of ABS, Lloyd’s, DNV, MCA and other marine classification standards, the ABYC Standards and the National Electrical Code.

Minimum Education:

Full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in electrical engineering.  In lieu of a degree, minimum requirements may be met through extensive experience and specialized knowledge in the marine electrical field.  This experienced and knowledge shall include the ability to apply engineering concepts theories and practices to achieve engineering objectives, to adapt and apply methods and techniques of related scientific disciplines and to organize, analyze, interpret and evaluate data in the solution of engineering problems.

Responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:

Developing marine electrical projects from concept to completion.  Maintaining control of electrical projects for function, suitability and economics.  Developing standards in electrical design, functions and materials.  Developing test procedures for designed marine electrical equipment and systems.  Producing electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for new and existing projects.  Writing technical reports and classification submittals.  Writing installation and operation manuals.  Coordinating with customers, naval architects, equipment vendors, shipyards, classification agencies, contractors and sub-contractors in developing, designing and managing the manufacture, installation, testing and certifying of marine electrical equipment and systems.

MARINE ELECTRICIAN

CAREER DESCRIPTION

Overview:   Amazing opportunity for the right individual to join one of the premiere Marine Electric organizations in the world.  Ward’s Marine Electric, a family-owned and operated business for over 70 years, is looking for an outstanding marine electrician who is knowledgeable and responsible for the maintenance, testing, diagnostics, repair and installation of marine electrical systems and equipment both onboard vessels or in-house.  

Some examples of equipment include battery chargers, inverters, converters, battery systems, standby power supplies, generators, alternators, engine starters, pumps, motors, monitoring systems, alarm systems, fire protection systems, panel boards, switchboards, circuit breakers, relays, transducers, transformers, receptacles, light fixtures, lighting control systems, metering circuits, water heaters, bonding and grounding systems, etc.

Specific Duties:

  • Design and install electrical control systems
  • Layout and install wiring runs
  • Perform electrical, corrosion and lightning damage surveys
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and effect required maintenance, repairs or replacement
  • Perform ship checks onboard to develop technical plan and scope of work for estimating

Skills:

  • Understand single phase and three phase electrical theory
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of European distribution systems
  • Must be able to use electrical test meters, hand crimpers, heavy crimpers, soldering tools, had tools and power tools,
  • Must be able to read and follow electrical diagrams and schematics
  • Must be knowledgeable of marine electrical standards specifically ABYC
  • Must be knowledgeable of relevant marine class societies and rules such as ABS, Lloyds, BV, RINA
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Professional communication skills in various formats including personal, email, telephone, trade shows, networking events
  • Able to write technical reports and field notes

Certifications:

  • American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Electrical Marine Technician Certification required to maintain a career position with Wards Marine Electric

Environment

  • Onboard vessels in and out of water in local area marinas or boatyards
  • Travel will be necessary however the duration and location will vary
  • Some bending, stooping and lifting of weights up to 75lbs can be expected
  • Periods of non-climate control and or confined spaces

MARINE ENGRAVER

DESCRIPTION

Overview:   Amazing opportunity for the right individual to join one of  the premiere Marine Electric organizations in the world.  Ward’s Marine Electric, a family-owned and operated business for over 70 years, is looking for an outstanding marine engraver who is knowledgeable and responsible in the below core competencies.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanically inclined w/ some experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to problem solve independently and as a team.
  • Have a great work ethic.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • A confident self-starter driven to succeed.
  • Mathematically inclined & knowledgeable.
  • Good people skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Create tags, small & large boat panels using various substrates, vinyl, plastic, and other components.
  • Must be competent using X-Acto knives/blades, power tools, tape measures & other production tools.
  • Learn to properly use router tables, laser engravers, table saws, finishing equipment, large format printers and other equipment.
  • Some hand painting and spray painting
  • Maintain machinery in good working condition.
  • Must be in good physical condition and be able to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Good in measurements, math and recreating custom panels from customers
  • Familiar with design or sign programs is a plus, we use Vision Pro 9
